The City of North Las Vegas is looking for a name for the Craig Ranch Regional Park, and you can make your suggestions over here.
I'm thinking: why not the Shawn Lampman Regional Park? The name Shawn Lampman has a little history in relation to it:
Ramirez, the mayoral candidate [who ran against Montandon in 2005], said he has concerns about another issue the mayor has consistently voted on: North Las Vegas' purchase of the 132-acre Craig Ranch Golf Course for a city park.
Montandon has voted on the deal despite being a former business partner of Shawn Lampman, one of the golf course's owners, who stands to benefit from the $52 million deal.
"I question his decision-making and I question his motivation," Ramirez said. "The purchase of Craig Ranch Golf Course is something he shouldn't be involved in."
In 2001, Montandon faced the state Ethics Commission on three charges related to a vote involving the same property.
The commission dismissed the charges against him. But commissioners said that before voting on a zone change brought before the City Council by Lampman, Montandon should have disclosed his business and personal relationship with his former business partner.
Montandon consistently has participated in City Council votes affecting the property, without mentioning his ties to Lampman. At a City Council meeting in June, Montandon participated in the unanimous vote to approve a minimum purchase price agreement for the land.
"I have zero financial involvement with Shawn Lampman," Montandon said in an interview last week. "This (park) is a legacy thing. This'll be the greatest thing that happens to North Las Vegas in my term and terms to come. ... If I'm not going to be involved in this thing as mayor, who is going to be? This is probably one of the greatest things I'm going to do as mayor is to get this park for the city." (RJ)
Oh yeah, and if you've never read the ethics complaint against the Mayor involving Lampman, why not go have a gander over here? The Nevada Ethics Commission didn't find any violations by the Mayor, but naming the Regional Park for Lampman will help remind future Nor'Towners about a bit of their colorful history.
Oh, Shawn Lampman has also given generously to the Governor's Legal Defense Slush Fund, too. A couple of times, too, using bundling.
