John Bonaventura is an Democratic candidate for Nevada State Senate, District 4. He offered the following answers to the questionnaire I sent out the other day:
Q. Perhaps one of the greatest concerns that many North Las Vegans share is the sudden apparent increase in high density housing projects near single family homes. How would you deal with these concerns?
A. This would be a function of the County Commission but I think that better master planning would solve some of the high density problems we seen now.
Q. North Las Vegans and others in the northern valley are worried about the noise and possible shooting mishaps which may result from the construction of the new Clark County Shooting Park. If elected, what would you do to ensure that people living near the park will remain safe and their neighborhoods reasonably quiet?
A. The Shooting park is more than a mile away from North Las Vegas. We need to keep a log of all complaints and injuries so that we would be able to address the issue better. This is also a local problem and not a state problem. The issue would probably not be addressed by the state senate.
Q. Many North Las Vegans are concerned about the proposed construction of
a large road system in the northern valley called the Sheep Mountain
Parkway. Do you favor or oppose the construction of this parkway and
why?
A. With all the cuts for future road projects, I don't think we will see this project finished very soon, but as long as the people in the northern valley would see benefits from it I would support it.
Q. During the last view years, there have been a number of shootings at schools and elsewhere involving children. What would you do, if elected, to reduce the number of shootings at our schools and in our neighborhoods?
A. More police, cameras and metal detectors at problem schools.
Q. What would you do to deal with the budget shortfalls at your level of government (state, county, city)? What would you do to guarantee, as Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley has promised, that they will never happen again?
A. State budget solutions were proposed in 1993 and ignored again and again by politicians that are in the pockets of "special interest groups". In 2003 and 2007 is where it really went wrong so my suggestion is that we should kick out most of the incumbents that caused this problem in the first place. Including Barbara Buckley and Stephen Horsford. If they would have done their job right in the first place we would not be in this predicament. We need to balance the budget not increase the burden on the people.
Q. Do you support the construction of a Tule Springs Ice Age Park (http://tulespringslv.com)? Why or why not?
A. As long as Nevada would not be burdened by the cost and it was managed by the BLM and considered a National Conservation Area, I would support it.
Q. What will be your most important priority if elected? What steps would you take to attain that priority?
A. LAKE MEAD: We need a Concurrent Drought Resolution in every concerned state.
A
BETTER FAMILY COURT SYSTEM: Services can be in-house and self-funded
and would cost a fraction of what families are now paying.
ENERGY SOLUTIONS: We must step up our solar and wind energy and change the laws that are restricting solar energy in Nevada.
A vote for Bonaventura is a vote to:
Save lake mead,
Improve the family court system,
And to make sure we meet our state goal for renewable energy in order to create jobs and improve the economy

Note: At the time of this posting Steven Horsford, the incumbent for this seat, did not respond to the questionnaire. He and other candidates have a standing invitation to do so, just follow this link to find out how.
