Stan Vaughn is an Independent American candidate for Nevada State Senate, District 4. He offered the following answers to the questionnaire I sent out the other day:
Q. Perhaps one of the greatest concerns that many North Las Vegans share is the sudden apparent increase in high density housing projects near single family homes. How would you deal with these concerns?
A. It is crucial for citizens to be involved when there are proposed changes to Master planning. For example when the area set aside at Alexander and Martin Luther King had the City of North Las Vegas wanting to change the planned use from that of a library (still not built years later) to a jail, I got involved and organized citizens to attend and we stopped the proposed change. It is important for there to be good Master planning and agreements with developers that fit in with community wishes.
Q. North Las Vegans and others in the northern valley are worried about the noise and possible shooting mishaps which may result from the construction of the new Clark County Shooting Park. If elected, what would you do to ensure that people living near the park will remain safe and their neighborhoods reasonably quiet?
A. I fully support the shooting park. I have not had any concerns expressed to me, either this year in walking Senate 4 or in 2006 when I walked and visited 12,000 homes in Assembly 7 race.
Q. Many North Las Vegans are concerned about the proposed construction of a large road system in the northern valley called the Sheep Mountain Parkway. Do you favor or oppose the construction of this parkway and why?
A. The City of North Las Vegas will be seeing continued growth at a rapid pace as itcontinues to approach 500,000 residents in the future. Again, discussions should take place as to citizens being involved in what benefits such a parkway will have or not.
Q. During the last view years, there have been a number of shootings at schools and elsewhere involving children. What would you do, if elected, to reduce the number of shootings at our schools and in our neighborhoods?
A. When I was in school we had 4-H programs and shootings etc non existent. There are numerous good programs offered by such groups as NRA and others that we need to see more of in classrooms and outdoors.
Q. What would you do to deal with the budget shortfalls at your level of government (state, county, city)? What would you do to guarantee, as Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley has promised, that they will never happen again?
A. Budget shortfalls at the State level have come about due to solutions ignored previously as well as the refund in recent past which could have been set aside instead and built up.
Q. What will be your most important priority if elected? What steps would you take to attain that priority?
A. An important priority is to reverse the giving away of taxpayer funds to illegal aliens (such as my opponent has done with the Millennium Scholarships being made available to illegal aliens) when we have such issues as you have mentioned here of concern to citizens, and we have needs for our veterans and other citizens. The voting citizens need to be a priority and meeting their needs.
Mr. Vaughn did not respond to the question about the Ice Age Park.
