Look Who's in Charge of Public Safety
The fellow Governor Jim Gibbons has appointed as Chief Poobah of Public Safety, has, let us say, a checkered past.
Over on his Pundit site, Jon Ralston has posted a MSWord (yech) document which reprints a story from the Reno Gazette Journal from 1999, wherein we learn that Philip Phillip Galeoto, Gibbons' choice for Public Safety boss, conveniently resigned from the Reno police department at just about the time there was an Internal Affairs investigation going on into "alleged misconduct" by Galeoto. Apparently Galeoto hadn't been diligently entering warrants into the computer system, and endangering fellow officers as a result.
Galeoto also had a stint in the Baghdad Police College, which a WaPo article recently labeled a "Disaster."
And this is the guy in charge of Nevada public safety? Maybe the Gube is right to be paranoid.
Oh, yeah. New stuff in NorthTown.
[UPDATE: KOLO has a report on the Galeoto--dare I say it?--scandal. The report suggests Gibbons was boob for replacing former Public Safety chief Togliatti. Sounds about right.]

Reminds me of the whole Bernie Kerrick fiasco Guiliani put the country through. Thanks again Gibbons.

We keep hearing that Galeoto was "in police work" in California. I can't seem to find any word about where he worked or what he did. Usually a cop with even minor credentials name will show up someplace...unless they are trying to maintain a very low profile.
