Why is this Man Smiling?

Meet the Yack-man, our Sierra Pacific Power Overlord, Mike Yackira!

But, but...why is he smiling?

Is it because he just got a new prescription to Enzyte? Or is it because he's building dirty coal plants in Ely that he never intended to be "clean"? Or could it be because he thinks Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is a wimp and will cave on the plants? Or might it be because he's made millions selling power to saps like us?

Or is it because Governor Gibbons has a writing style eerily similar to the Yack-man's?

Gibbons helped the company [Sierra Pacific] sidestep protests at the state Environmental Commission by writing a letter that sounded as if Yackira had penned it. (He scoffed when I wryly suggested as much Tuesday. Scoffed, I tell you.) (Sun)

The Yack-man appeared recently on Ralston's Pate to Pate (not up on the Internets yet, drat) to tell us how environmentally sensitive those coal plants will be and that we're all moonbats for thinking that maybe more resources should be put into alternatives like solar and geothermal power.

Wasn't it just a week or so ago that the power companies were telling the state Pollution Mandating Commission that stuff like carbon sequestering and other technologies to clean up clean coal are just the stuff of bad science fiction and that it would be mean to force the coal-fired plants to adopt such measures even if they do come available.

So, why is it that anyone wold believe anything this guy's saying?
