Dawn Seeking to Embarrass Gibbons Publicly?

That's what Neff sez, anyways:

So when I learned Gov. Jim Gibbons was seeking a divorce and his wife was seeking to publicly embarrass him about it, it quickly became a story of which I wanted no part. Yet, I still placed calls to the governor's office on Feb. 21.

Now isn't that interesting, nobody's said anything before about Dawn "seeking to publicly embarrass" Gibbons about a possible divorce. And its embedded in a story about how icky the whole business is, and how reporters shouldn't be reporting it, unless of course, someone in the Gube mansion, no doubt barraged by phone calls from reporters who would never report on such thing, finally let the cat out of the bag, and who was subsequently attacked unmercifully by almost everyone of the reporters who put in a call.

Well, one could speculate for days about what would make Dawn give up the perks of being the First Co-conspirator and seek "to publicly embarrass" the Governor, especially when he so good at doing that himself. Assuming, of course, that bit about "seeking to publicly embarrass" the Gov is not just a rumor.

But I shouldn't talk, I suppose. Life is so much easier for a monger of scandals. Nobody expects me to have any ethics.

More, if you must: Ralston, Gleaner, Mynx.

And I must be a complete idiot. I just don't understand how this question, posed by Ralston, is a difficult one:

do we now try to delve into why there is marital discord, who caused it, and determine, somehow, whether this is affecting Gibbons’ performance?

Surely the performance of the Governor is a worthy question for the press, since they are the only means we mere citizens have for getting the information we need to carry out our job: which is deciding whether to vote for or against Gibbons when election time comes around again.

Whether delving into the details of the marital discord has any bearing on Gibbons' performance as Governor, is a question Ralston and the rest of press will have to turn their delicate sensibilities to, I suppose. I think we have ample evidence from the past week that there won't be much haste on their part to make the connection.

In any case, If Gibbons can't do the job--and there has never been a shred of evidence that he ever could even when happily married--then we have an obligation to, well, vote Gibbons out.

Elsewhere: nobody seems to know who's speaking for the Gube mansion these days. (RJ)

Oh. And I suppose we should historians for helping us to keep this all in perspective. After all, none of Gibbons' gaffes, singly or collectively, could earn him a place in the top ten Las Vegas scandals. Indeed, rumors of a divorce couldn't even earn the Gibbones a mention in a story of the rest of the nonsense going on last week. Their photo graced the piece, but they weren't even mentioned elsewhere**. (Sun) When all is said and done, Gibbons will be remembered, if remembered at all, as a mediocre politician who bungled his way through one term as Nevada Governor--unless the U.S. Attorney shows up with a few indictments, of course.

**CORRECTIVE UPDATE: the Sun piece does in fact mention GIbbons' family problems twice.

Well, well, let's see what kind of work his new acting press secretary can do for him.

Dan Burns only started at DPS about 2 weeks ago after working for DPS/Division of Emergency Management after now former Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt didn't need him anymore when she was still in office. Story below:

Governor names acting press secretary:

Posted: 3/1/2008

The office of Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons is announcing an acting press secretary.

Daniel Burns was named to the position Friday. He has served as public information officer for the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
There's no immediate word on how long Burns will serve the governor's office on the acting basis.
Melissa Subbotin recently resigned as Gibbons' press secretary, saying she wants to "pursue other career opportunities."

Caesar's wife is pissed.

Fuck you all. I wish the slut that gave birth to all you assholes had gotten abortions, instead of giving you life. Now you take that life and spend it making senseless comments with little coherence or veracity. Good thing no one cares what you think.
